The province of Segovia is rich in history and nature. Therefore, this five-day bike tour is adapted to those who desire to discover Segovia in a singular way.
During three days you will visit important historical sites around the city and in the evenings you will explore the city of Segovia. The fourth day, you will be leaving Segovia cycling during two days and reaching the middle-age town of Sepulveda.
First day, you will visit two historical sites of the Spanish royalty: the Royal palaces of Riofrío and La Granja de San Ildefonso, this one, with impressive gardens.
Second day, you head north where you will experience what a pilgrim feels following the Camino de Santiago (Way of Santiago). It is just a single day trip that won´t let you down.
Third day, heading west you will go across the countryside of the region by a peaceful path leading to the walled city of Ávila.
Fourth day, it represents the final route. Heading east, you will exit the city of Segovia going along the mountains. It is a pleasant route crossing villages that finishes at the middle-age town of Pedraza. On the last day, cycling towards Duratón river, you will discover the region of one of the most important birds of prey reserve in Europe. You will be able to feel and see these birds much closer than you could ever imagine. Finally, this stunning trip will lead you to the historical town of Sepulveda.
Arrival day. All members of the tour meet Iberrides staff and tour members in Segovia. There will be time to have a first look of Segovia, internationally known for its famous and unique Roman aqueduct
The first day covers Segovia and its surroundings. We will head south to find the Royal palace of Riofrío, an Italian style baroque building that was used by the monarchy as a hunting spot. Later we will find another baroque style palace at the royal site of La Granja de San Ildefonso which is at the feet of the tallest mountain of La Sierra with majestic gardens built by the same designer of Versailles. A short ride by a cycle way will take us back to Segovia
Today you will follow the yellow arrows along the route indicating the way to Santiago de Compostela. The way goes through beautiful countryside landscapes only interrupted by several villages and small towns full of history and art, arriving at the walled town of Coca with a singular Gothic-Mudejar Castle from XV century
Leaving Segovia and heading west across ancient villages, will lead you to landscapes surrounded by the beauty of Sierra de Guadarrama. This route is a bit tougher than those of the days before. It is worthwhile to visit as it leads to the amazing walled city of Ávila, place where Saint Teresa de Jesus was born. Avila is an UNESCO world heritage site
The last bike tour heads east to find middle-age villages and natural landscapes in the Sierra de Guadarrama during a two-day trip. On the first day, you will be cycling along high mountains arriving at the village of Sotosalbos and later heading to the town of Pedraza, an interesting isolated historic site with a fantastic castle, and other important sites to visit
In this final day you will head to the famous wild prey bird reserve of river Duratón canyon, home for awesome eagles, vultures and hawks. You´ll also see standing alone in the middle of this landscape an 11th century chapel. To finish this fantastic tour bike you will continue to the old little town of Sepulveda with unique houses attached to the rocks. You will have a rewarding lunch in a typical restaurant tasting the most representative dishes of the region
