This three days cycling tour is a good chance to explore and discover the amazing culture and history of Madrid´s southern surroundings. Some people may want to combine this cycle tour with a visit to Madrid or Toledo.
The tour bike route goes across many old town and villages of the old Castile and shows the typical Castilian architecture and the people´s way of life, as well as rich historical sites. This is an easy route across quiet and easy paths.
The tour bike departs from Alcalá de Henares, hometown of the most universal Spanish writer who strongly influenced world´s literature with its famous book “Don Quixote”. The city of Alcalá is a UNESCO heritage site and its XV century university has had and continues to have significant impact on the social, educational and financial evolution of this old village.
The First two-day trip goes through old and fascinating little towns that will teach you how life was in this part of the country many centuries ago. The Royal site of Aranjuez, with a beautiful palace and impressive gardens is also considered by UNESCO a world heritage site.
On the final day, the tour goes along the river Tajo (Tagus), the longest of the Iberian Peninsula, arriving at the amazing old town of Toledo, an excellent place where you can spend days discovering historical sites
Alcalá de Henares and Toledo
On arrival day you will be taken to the hotel in Alcalá de Henares. After that, you will have the chance to visit the trip´s first UNESCO site, the University and Historic Precinct of Alcalá. The city was the birth place of Miguel de Cervantes, who changed literature forever with his masterpiece, “Don Quixote”.
You will start the trip following a route that traverses several typical Castilian villages and small towns where you will have your first contact with the region’s amazing culture, architecture and people. You will find in your way the first olive trees . The day ends at Chinchón, with a truly unique Main Square, a castle and the charm of the entire town to enjoy!
Shortly after you leave Chinchón you will arrive in Colmenar de Oreja, another marvelous example of a historic Castilian small town. The olive trees will be our companions for a good part of this day. And after crossing the river Tagus, the longest in Spain, you will arrive in Ocaña, with its magnificent Main Square, the third biggest of Spain, later you will arrive at the final destination of the day, Aranjuez, a Royal villa with an impressive palace and extensive gardens, another UNESCO site of the tour
Today the route is quite flat and easy! All day you will be pedaling alongside the Río Tajo, the longest river of the entire peninsula. The arrival at the amazing city of Toledo will definitely make for some life-long memories. This very ancient and historic city offers us many things to see and enjoy. A ride around the city will give you some idea of its majesty. Romans, Visigoths, Jews and Arabs were part of the city at some point, and their legacy is still alive. Your hotel for this evening will be a historic ancient palace within the walls of Toledo
